燃气蒸汽发生器中的炉膛、锅筒、燃烧器、水冷壁、过热器、省煤器、空气预热器、构架和炉墙等主要部件构成生产蒸汽的核心部分，称为锅炉本体。锅炉本体中两个最主要的部件是炉膛和锅筒。

燃气蒸汽发生器的燃烧方式有三种形式：层燃、室燃、沸腾燃烧。各种燃烧方式有其相应的燃烧设备。固定炉排、链条炉排、往复炉排、振动炉排等属于层燃式，适用于燃烧固体燃料。煤粉锅炉、燃油锅炉、燃气锅炉等属于室燃式，适用于粉状固体燃料，液体燃料和气体燃料。
